SINGAPORE, March 22 (Reuters) - Commercial talks for Singapore to host a leg of the Formula One (F1) race are ongoing but government help would be needed to cover the cost of the famous racing event, a cabinet minister said on Thursday.

"Some government support will be necessary and we have indicated (that) to the other parties concerned," said Vivian Balakrishnan, Singapore's minister for community development, youth and sports.

"I hope in the next few days or weeks there will be some good news," he said, speaking at a Foreign Correspondents Association lunch.

Singapore is keen to host a Formula One race in order to boost tourism and jazz up its image.

Last week, Formula One supremo Bernie Ecclestone met with Singapore tycoon Ong Beng Seng, who controls resorts developer Hotel Properties Ltd. , to discuss the possibility of holding a street race in the city-state.

Ecclestone told Reuters on Saturday that one of the obstacles in the talks had been that the Singapore government wanted the event to be a private enterprise.

The plan is for the race to be held at night, under floodlights, a first for Formula One. Besides providing a local spectacle, such a race would also boost European television audiences due to the time difference.

Motor Racing: And Alonso's first past the Merlion!

SINGAPORE: It is 7pm on a Sunday in September next year. They have lined up in formation - the magnificent scarlet Ferraris, the gleaming silver McClaren-Mercedes, the playful blue and yellow Renaults - all straining at the leash in front off Marina Bay. One by one, the five red starter lights go off and those powerful engines roar to life.

At 300kmh, led by world champion Fernando Alonso, they fly in a blur past the Esplanade and City Hall, around Swissotel The Stamford and into Suntec City. Before you know it, they are back beneath the Benjamin Sheares Bridge and on their next lap.

If all goes to plan and Formula 1 (F1) supremo Bernie Ecclestone reaches an understanding with one of the Singaporean groups that have offered to host a Grand Prix here in 2008, something akin to this scenario could come alive on our roads.

TODAY newspaper revealed last week that Formula One Management company's talks with hotel and property tycoon Ong Beng Seng and ONEー15 luxury marina club developer Arthur Tay are at an advanced stage.

TODAY has now managed to obtain details of the street circuit proposed by world-famous designer Hermann Tilke - and it promises to advertise Singapore in the most flattering light possible.

The circuit takes in the most seductive stretch of Singapore's skyline, including a slew of skyscrapers, the Victoria Memorial Hall, the Raffles Hotel and the Singapore Flyer. The start-finish line of the 4.8-km track could be in front of the grandstand being built for National Day.

The novelty factor goes up several notches as the race will be a night race - perhaps the first in the world for a street circuit.

Some night races are held in the United States, but they take place on oval stadium tracks. Street tracks, themselves, are a rarity with Monaco providing the only other one on the Formula 1 calendar. A night race on a street circuit is almost unheard of and it will provide drivers a unique technical challenge.

The timing could also help viewers in Europe and the US tune in at a more comfortable hour.

While a final decision is still pending, the Ministry of Trade and Industry has confirmed that talks are in progress.

"We are constantly on the lookout for investors and event organisers who wish to bring major events, such as the F1 Grand Prix, to Singapore. Several parties have expressed an interest in bringing F1 to Singapore and discussions are ongoing," a ministry spokesperson said in an email reply to TODAY.

Be prepared for some inconveniences, though.

While the proposed circuit could come as a windfall to hotels along the route - including Marina Mandarin, Conrad, Ritz-Carlton, Pan Pacific, Raffles and Swissotel, where guests could check in for the race - public roads to the heart of the city may have to be closed for the event.

In Monaco, for example, the circuit closes to general traffic three hours before the race and opens 30 minutes after it is over.

The closures may be limited to two one-hour practice sessions on Friday, another practice session and the qualifiers on Saturday, and race day on Sunday.

Many areas along the route will still be accessible by MRT, or via the underground link from City Hall station.

Weighed against that is a global audience of 350 million catching a glimpse of the Singapore skyline and revenues that could touch US$100 million ($154 million).

Let's hear those engines roar. - TODAY

300kmh on S'pore roads?

Singapore's race against time to host a Formula 1 Grand Prix is nearing the chequered flag.

TODAY has learnt that F1 supremo Bernie Ecclestone has been in talks with at least two Singaporean groups to stage a race here as early as next year. It is understood that negotiations will have to be concluded soon to make the tight deadline.

A front-running group in the talks is led by a prominent yet reclusive local business czar, one of Singapore's richest men. He got in touch with Mr Ecclestone last year and told him that he was willing to back the venture.

The cost of hosting this world-class event is thought to be in the range of US$35 million ($54 million). The returns are many times higher. When Bahrain hosted the race in 2005, it not only attracted tourists by the thousands but also netted up to US$100 million from hotel receipts, recreational spending and contracts for local players. Tourism receipts is also a key Singapore consideration.

As negotiations here revved up, Mr Hermann Tilke, the world renowned German architect responsible for designing the Formula 1 circuits in Sepang, Manama, Istanbul and Shanghai, was commissioned to design a street circuit which would see F1 cars racing in downtown Singapore at speeds of up to 300km an hour.

Mr Tilke visited the country last year and his track design has since been approved, in principle. A Formula 1 race on a street circuit in Singapore would inevitably draw comparisons with the legendary Monte Carlo track in Monaco ・arguably the most glamorous of the F1 race destinations.

Many race observers say that Singapore's wide roads are ideal for a street circuit. It would also avoid the building of a huge stadium track that would be a white elephant the rest of the year.

But just before Formula 1 could sign on the dotted line, a new player entered the fray.

None of the groups involved are keen to talk at this critical stage of the negotiations.

Speaking from his London office, Mr Ecclestone, 76, would only say: "Yes, we have been talking to various parties about a race in Singapore, but as it is, nothing has been firmed up yet.

"When we have something, you will definitely know about it."

When contacted, both the Ministry of Trade and Industry and the Singapore Tourism Board declined comment. But one source, who is in the loop, told TODAY: "For the sake of transparency, perhaps the second party that has just come in should be given a chance to prove what it is capable of doing.

"But everyone who knows Formula 1 knows that Bernie (Ecclestone) does not give an inch away. He'll only work with those he is comfortable with."

The source said that talks between Formula 1 and the first group, led by the business czar's group, were at an advanced stage when the new party came into the picture.

"We were very close, 99 per cent there with Ecclestone," said the source. "We can't afford to miss the boat again because Singapore may not be given another chance to host Formula 1."

Singapore was offered a Formula 1 race in 1991 but turned it down, in part due to site concerns.

More recently, the drive for Singapore to host one leg of the F1 races, has been gathering momentum since March last year, when Mr Ecclestone revealed exclusively to this newspaper that he was open to the idea of letting Singapore host the event.

If the race does come to Singapore, the region will play host to two F1 circuits for at least the next few years. Sepang's deal with F1 is until 2010. Observers say that the races in Singapore and Sepang could bookend the Formula 1 season.

Formula 1 is not the only proposal that Singapore is considering. Top officials of the A1 Grand Prix series have also approached the Government about the possibility of hosting a race here and have already sent their track designers here.

14才の母

Yesterday was the last episode. Glad it was a happy ending.
The whole team of cast did well, fabulous I could say. Everyone fit in their roles perfectly.
Strong-willed 14 yr old girl. The mum who knows when to use the hard method, when to use the soft way.  See the way she handled the scene when Miki wanted to move out. Sugoii !
The dad who cares so much for the family, loves his two kids so much, treats this daughter as the pearl on hand. Cant forget the scene when his eyes were filled with tears while adjusting the camera` s lens.
The little brother who loves his sister so much. Cant forget the scene where he wanted to board the ambulance together with his sister. The way he cried and said `Iyyda!!`
That idiotic news reporter. But not so bad lah, he end up still helped Miki. Last episode of him was cute. A toy for Sora-chan. Kawaii na.... Just appeared and gave a toy...fufufu...
Nothing upset happened for the last episode, but dont know why I cried with Miki`s mum at the scene where Sora-chan was discharged. Touched??
Although this kind of topic can never never appear on TV in Spore, it really bring across the message of the importance of life. Not that I support underage pregnency, but I guess the whole idea of this drama is LIFE. How Miki go all the way out to protect a new born life.

お疲れ, みんな!! Staff and cast ! Maybe there will be a next season of this drama. Maybe.....
